Raul F. Marcelo first joined the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority in March 2007 as deputy administrator for the Business and Investment Group, specifically tasked to handle tourism in the entire Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
In a few months’ time as deputy administrator, he was able to draw together the tourism stakeholders of the Freeport, which consequently made him establish “Team Subic Bay” with ease. He spearheaded numerous marketing endeavors, both in local and in foreign travel fairs and exhibitions, to aggressively promote Subic Bay as a premier tourist destination.
Under his baton, Subic Bay bagged two (2) tourism awards in 2008: the Top Marketing Award at the Second Philippine International Tourism Fair (PITF) in Cebu City and the Best Booth design at the 19th Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.
He is currently the special assistant of Bataan governor Enrique Garcia and Bataan 2nd District representative Albert Garcia, and is tasked to research on various issues and concerns, and to recommend strategies and solutions.
Mr. Marcelo was also appointed as vice chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 19th Philippine Advertising Congress, one of the most prestigious gatherings of key players in the advertising industry. Following the said event, he chaired another Organizing Committee, the First Philippine MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) Conference, which pumped prime Subic Bay as a MICE destination in the Philippines. He was also responsible for bringing in the first cruise ship MV Spirit of Adventure to Subic Bay in February 2012.
Prior to joining the public service, Mr. Marcelo was assistant vice president for hotel operations of the Subic Legend Hotels and Casinos, the only deluxe hotel then in Subic Bay, wherein he administered the operations of the 155-room hotel.
Being a golf enthusiast, he also became the golf manager of Subic Bay Golf and Country Club. Earlier in his career, he worked in the banking and financing sector for twenty (20) years, rising through the ranks from account officer to vice president for marketing.
Mr. Marcelo spent his entire schooling years in San Beda College, Manila, graduating with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Marketing in 1978.
