HANJIN-SUBIC TO BUILD 10 MIDSIZE CONTAINER SHIPS
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, 06/20/2012 – Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction-Philippines (HHIC-Phil) recently got a $450m contract to build 10 midsize container ships inside its Redondo Peninsula shipyard.
The company recently got its contract from European shipping companies to build these 5,000TEU container ships.
The Euro-zone crisis has played quite a hand on the demand for these midsize container ships due to high expectations of an economic recovery and excessive bidding for very large container ships.
Current specifications of these midsize container ships are 255m in length, 37m in width, and 22m in depth with a top speed of 21.5 knots. The company boasts that these ships will be environmentally-friendly. (Jonas Reyes, Manila Bulletin)
